Pharmacy Franchise Head Office Infrastructure Update - 2012

Situation:
Customer with about 40 employees required a better way to collaborate with emails, calendars and contacts. Customer required mobile access to email and shared resource through phones and notebooks. The existing server is also out of date.

Challenges:
Existing server was out of date and could not accommodate the customers' requirements. Customer needed the transition (old server to new server) to occur quickly with minimal down time. Customer also had a large number of mobile employees that were not located in the general area and were not able to travel to the main location during the transition phase.

Solution:
  • Installation of a new Microsoft Windows Small Business server with Exchange would allow employees to collaborate with email, calendars and contacts. Microsoft Windows Small Business server with Exchange would also provide active sync to devices such as iPad's and iPhones to have access to email when they are not in the office and webmail access. Server also would provide a central storage location for all files, central monitoring of windows updates and central monitoring of customers antivirus solution.
  • Setup of existing firewall with RADIUS authentication allows mobile users to use a single sign-on to access VPN when out of the office.
  • Remote users who could not travel to the office for the migrate had installations completed over the internet allowing the remote users to stay at home while the transition took place.
  • Installation of a Blackberry Enterprise Server allows Blackberry users to access email, calendar and contacts while syncing with the exchange server.
  • Installation of a Trend Micro Antivirus solution allows protection for the users and Exchange against Viruses and other threats.

Result:
The migration was completed over the weekend to minimize interruptions with employee's daily routines. Remote and local support were offered over the next 2 days to fix minor bugs and issues so that the company did not have to implement IT support internally. The company is now able to share and communicate their resources. Now that the company has improved and enhanced their mobile access, they are able to communicate and share their resources with a peace of mind knowing that all their data is backed up and safe from external threats.
